Moments later, ground crew scurried about the landing pad to check the condition of the ship as the hatch opened and its passengers stepped out. He chuckled and nodded as he let her go reluctantly to fall into step beside her. "Only since we got our stuff out of our cabin on the Swiftpaw, Niromi, but can you really blame me?" She smiled and kissed his cheek as she took his paw into hers and continued to the main terminal. "A whole year of shore leave and I'm going to enjoy every second of it." Colin ruffed softly and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "I am too, love." The pair waited a few moments for their luggage and left the terminal. "Oh look, a diner." Niri pointed as Colin was dragged along behind her. "Mmm, real food sounds like a great idea." He smiled sheepishly as his stomach rumbled audibly, making her giggle. "Well it seems your tummy agrees." Colin had their luggage sent on to their hotel room a block away and they entered the small restaurant. They took a seat in a booth near the front. A short male rat wearing a paper hat came and quickly took their orders before scurrying back to the kitchen. They ordered a small meal and relaxed as they waited for their food. "The gravity feels a little funny doesn't it?" she asked. He nodded. "It’s all natural, not a grav plating in sight." He stroked her paw from across the table and smiled. She returned the smile and idly waged her tail against the booth seat. “So what now my frisky wolf?" Colin wagged his tail and smirked. "Well I think we deserve some time to ourselves." Niri nodded in agreement. "Perhaps a camping holiday?" Colin shook his head. "Hmm actually I had something else in mind." She tilted her head and looked slightly confused. "Oh? Like what?" Colin reached into a pocket and slipped a travel brochure in front of Niri. "Gaia? Oh no, that’s so pricy. There’s no way we could afford it." she said. He smiled and then slipped across a data pad. She looked at the pad and back up at him before picking up the pad and reading. "Reservations?" she looked at him wide eyed and a ecstatic smile across her face. "You booked us on the Hawaii? The most luxurious cruise ship ever built Hawaii?" she asked incredulously. Colin grinned and nodded. "Yup. Surprise!" The sudden outburst drew the attention of the other patrons and the couple had dozens of eyes watching them. Colin oofed as he set down the last bag from a fairly
large shopping expedition on the floor of their hotel room. "I will
never understand why one woman needs to buy so much stuff." he panted

Niri could see uneasiness in the way Colin walked to the building and hesitated. "Nervous?" she asked as she laid a paw on his shoulder. He shook his head but Niri could tell he was lying. "We talked about this, the gate has been tested for years and it’s perfectly safe." Colin nodded and looked up at the massive building. "Yeah I guess so, it’s just..." she smiled. "The thought of being catapulted across light years in a matter of hours bother you." He chuckled and looked up giving her a smile. “I seem to keep repeating myself don’t I?” "I don't really blame you,” Niri replied. “But we'll find out for ourselves in a few hours." They entered the building, passing under a neon red sign that read 'Nova Lines Spaceport' Colin fumbled slightly as he fastened his seatbelt. Niri laid a soothing paw on his and he calmed down slightly. "Good morning." At the front of the cabin, a holographic steward smiled at the assembled passengers dressed in the company’s bright red uniform. "Welcome aboard Nova Lines flight number 159 from Earth to Gaia. As most of you are aware, we shall be using the Jump Gate." The image proceeded to explain how the concentrations of artificial gravity focused on one point established a 'gateway' to a distant point between two terminals. Colin listened carefully as the lecture went on, his ears flicking nervously. Niromi smiled as she stroked his paw softly. She tuned the hologram out mainly because she was clueless as to the technology and how it worked. Instead she opted to calm her boyfriend down. "We shall be departing in one hour. Thank you and enjoy your flight." The ship seemed to pulse beneath their foot paws. They looked out of the windows and could see the huge ring of the Gate hanging in space. On one side was Luna orbital station. Niri smiled as she saw the small pinpoints of light from cargo thrusters docking and undocking at the freighter ports. "I don't think you can see it from here." Colin smiled and leaned back against his seat. “Kin was right." she muttered. He looked back at her and blinked. "The fennec? Right about what?" She nodded "Kin told me that you would get me." Colin smiled and nodded. "Smart fellow." She cuddled up closer to him and they kissed softly as the ship shuddered slightly. He looked up in alarm and she giggled. "Easy love." The screen at the front of the cabin lit up. "We shall be entering the gate in approximately one minute; all passengers and crew please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts." The pair buckled in securely. A swirl of light appeared in the center of the ring and Colin took her paw tightly into his. "Deep breath darling." she whispered and everything seemed to jump. With a rush of light, the ship entered the ring and disappeared. Niri looked out the widow with awe. The outside universe was a magnificent swirl of rainbow colors and she was mesmerized with the view. The ship had been in transit for almost an hour. She smiled over at Colin, he had his eyes closed and had still not let go of her paw. 'My hero' she thought impishly and returned to look out the window. "Transition in one minute, please return to your seats." The other passengers sat back down and she grinned to herself an idea popped into her head. As the ship left the rainbow world with another bright light engulfing the ship, she leaned over and kissed Colin deeply. His eyes opened wide as she put her paw in his lap. The ring receded behind them as the ship sailed towards the light of the nearby planet. "There she is." Colin pointed as the huge passenger liner Hawaii became visible. They moved closer to the ship and it seemed to fill the window. With a slight bump, the ship docked and after a moment they began to disembark. Colin walked out as the airlock hissed and slid open with Niri following close by and they entered the main lobby. For a moment, they and most of the other passengers stood stock still. It was opulence and richness everywhere they looked. Warm light filled the huge room and soft classical Terran music lilted in the background. Getting control of themselves, they approached the front desk. A short and sharply dressed fox looked up and smiled. "Good afternoon, sir, madam." he said. "Reservation for Young." Colin smiled back. The fox quickly typed in a few commands and used a furry digit to look down a list of reservations. "Ah yes, Mr. Young, room 667, port side third level." A tiny paw reached under the desk and then handed over the cardkey. "Enjoy your stay." Following the holo map set into the card, Colin led the way down a long hallway. After a few minutes and a trip through a grav elevator, they finally reached the door to their room. The card was slipped through the slot and with a soft hiss the door slid open. Niri was too busy trying to peek through the opening door to notice Colin kneeling down beside her. "Wha, hey!" Niromi giggled as Colin scooped her up in his arms and carried her over the threshold. She kissed him softly and smiled at the fur holding her up. "Practice." He simply answered and grinned. He set her down and with a soft beep a small lens set in the wall lit up. "Welcome." The image of a raccoon bellhop appeared and made Colin jump in surprise. "Oh! Oh, hello." he said as he quickly patted down his neck fur. The bellhop flickered slightly. "Your luggage shall arrive in a few moments. There is also a formal welcoming dinner tonight in the main dining hall. All passengers are welcomed to attend." It pointed out the luxurious features of the room and showed them around the room. They were amazed at the luxury of even the standard class room. Colin idly wondered what the suites looked like if these were the cheap rooms. The bed was huge and covered with a canopy; every fixture was gleaming clean and shining. The real showpiece of the room was a huge window that opened and presented a beautiful view of the planet below. Niromi giggled like a schoolgirl as she moved about, taking it all in. "Enjoy your stay." the holo bleeped then vanished. "They certainly take good care of their guests." Colin said as he stared out and down onto the planet. He turned to see Niri sitting on the bed, an impish grin on her face as she rubbed the sheets with her paws. "And just what do you have in mind my dear?" he asked with a grin of his own. She giggled as she held out her arms for him. "C’mere and find out." “They have an amazing selection of activities here." Colin said as he looked over the list by the bed. "Night clubs, restaurants, tennis courts, basketball courts, 6 pools." Niri looked from the window "Mmm, I fancy a swim.” She glanced at a nearby clock. “We have a few hours before dinner." She smiled and licked his cheek. "You find the closest one and I'll be right back." He nodded and raised an eyebrow as he saw her take the small package she had purchased behind a divider. He shrugged it off and found the closest pool just a deck below. Colin gave an appreciative whistle as Niri emerged clad in a bathrobe and then they left the room. A few twists and a lift ride later, they entered the pool room. "Amazing." Colin breathed. The room was made to look like a desert oasis, an intense light source overhead simulated the sun and in the center of the room was a huge sparkling pool. Along the far wall were a waterfall and a short distance to one side a small bar with a closed sign on it. "Mmm deserted." She smiled. "Good." He stripped off his own robe to his dark blue Speedos and she ruffed sexily. "What a man." He chuckled and dove in, surfacing a few feet away and looking at her with a sly grin. Colin explained the problem and the picture smiled. "Not a problem sir. If you will give me your measurements I shall accommodate you." A few minutes later a door by the closet opened and a set of formal wear was there on racks. “Now that is cool.” Colin said. Niri cooed over her fancy dress and Colin ruffed with appreciation when he saw how she filled out the low cut dress. He liked the suit he was given but grumbled a little at the bowtie. A little help and a kiss from Niri made it all better. The grand dining hall was immense, and once again the couple could hardly help but stare at the opulence. The room was full of mingling couples; talking, laughing, drinking and dancing. An amazing variety of species were there; felines, canines, equines, lupines. Even some avians and cetaceans. Soon after they arrived, the Capitan entered to a small fanfare. "Welcome everyone, aboard the Hawaii." The ocelot was dressed in a sharp and squared away white uniform with black and gold trip, a classic looking thing. He raised an arm in a wave and smiled. "I hope you all enjoy your stay and that your experience is a memorable one." A little later, as the pair settled down to eat, they found themselves sitting across from an elderly badger couple. "Oh hello there." the elderly female smiled sweetly. "Your first time here?" Niri smiled back and nodded. "How can you tell?" The male chuckled. "You two have that stare. We did our first time too." Colin reached over the table and offered a paw. "I'm Colin Young; nice to meet you.” He put a paw on Niri’s shoulder. “And this is Niromi Shiro." The badger stood and shook paws with the two. "I'm Thurston Howell and this is my wife Lucille." ‘Howell?’ Colin thought. ‘Why the hell does that sound familiar?’ The two couples soon became friendly as they sipped on wine and waited for dinner to be served, exchanging stories of their pasts, and how they had come to be on the ship. "Oh yes, this is our third cruise." Lucille said and smiled. "We had a very uneventful trip here.” She took a sip of her merlot and then looked thoughtful. “Although we did see an odd couple of fellows selling tickets at the spaceport. For a 3 hour lunar trip I believe." Thurston smiled. "Yes, a portly bear and a skinny ferret fellow. Both of them wearing sailor hats, very quaint." The next day, after a leisurely breakfast in bed, and a bit of fur ruffling 'fun', the wolf couple set off to explore the ship. Speaking to the activities director they learned of a tour package allowing a small group of tourist’s access to the planet. Niri was disappointed when they saw how expensive it was and Colin shook his head. "I’m sorry Niromi, another trip perhaps." They settled instead on a trip to a VR suite. Niri fiddled with the straps on her helmet. "Are
you sure about this?” Colin patted her paw. "Perfectly safe,
just like watching a holo." He switched on his helmet and a bright
green light flashed before him. An instant later, he found himself in
a lushly appointed bedroom with a huge bed dominating the room. He walked
around the room, looking at all the elegance surrounding him, when he
looked into a large mirror by the wall. He looked like a barbarian hero;
all muscles and nothing but a loincloth between him and the cool air.
He grinned and flexed his arms for a moment. “I wonder how I can
get like this for real.” A loud giggle made him jump and turn around
quickly. It was Niri, only now she was dressed in the flimsiest of outfits,
her hugely endowed chest threatening to tear the garment apart. Her pert
nipples showed through the light silk of her top and indeed most of the

Colin suddenly felt that his loincloth wasn't going to be useful much
longer. That thought was borne out moments later when he found himself

Lasers flashed, lights blinked, tails swished, and in the middle of the floor was a holo of an otter fighting an opponent using martial arts. "Oh hey that's Deyna Otter. That scene is from 'paws of fury', my fave!" Niri giggled. The loud and pulsing music drowned out their voices, but Colin pressed against her and spoke into her ear. "I didn't get to see much of it last time we watched it." He grinned. "I was enjoying the view between your sexy thighs too much." A few days later, the pair was in their usual place, in bed, when the comm. unit beeped next to Niri’s head. She sat up against the head board and picked up the receiver. "Hello?” Niri answered the comm. and batted at Colin’s muzzle as he nibbled her outer thigh, his paws running over her legs. "Stop that." she hissed and he chuckled evilly. "Hello Niromi dear, this is Lucille Howell. Err…is this a bad time?" Niri bit her lip and shuddered as Colin rubbed her tail base. "Nuh, no, not all." The badgeress on the other end smiled softly. "Dear, we were wondering if you two would care to join us for our trip down to the surface." Niri gasped. "I thought that was terribly expensive!" Colin looked up at her in question and stopped his molestations. "Oh it is dear but we can take you along for free as our guests." Niri grinned happily. "Oh thank you Lucy! We would be delighted!" The badgeress laughed. "Perfect, we will meet you at the lounge on C deck at 7 tomorrow evening.” She grinned to herself and said one last goodbye. “Now have fun you two." She rang off and Niri moaned as Colin commenced a tongue lashing on her white furred chest... Niri batted at Colin's paw as they entered C deck, his

and they went over. The entire tour group was all dressed in one piece
suits, which the tour director had sent up to their cabins earlier that
day. As they boarded the shuttle, they were seated by the Howells. They
talked merrily as the shuttle traveled down to the planet. As with most
planet falls, Colin was extremely nervous, gripping the chair arm a little
too tightly as the ship shuddered a bit when entering the atmosphere.
Niri patted his arm and Lucille smiled warmly. "Not used to it dear?"
Niri nodded and smiled back across the way. "He'll be fine once we
land." However, although Colin is a spacer and has to experience
little or no gravity, speed across light-years of cold dark vacuum, chart
previously unknown space and survive whatever it contains. But he absolutely
*cannot* handle atmosphere flying, makes him sick in the stomach. The
ship landed in a clearing just beside a line of massive and ancient trees
tied together by vines and other thick brush. The passengers began to
unbuckle and stand and then the tour guide stood at the head of the cabin.
"Everyone listen carefully please. This is a dangerous planet due
to the fact it is not well explored." He explained how the jungle
outside was almost completely untamed and how the force belts they were
issued worked. “The large knob right here in the center is the power.
Turn it to the right completely and the shield will activate. The red
button is a distress beacon, press it once and an alarm will sound and
activate a locator beacon. Trackers will get to you as fast as the wind.”
With a caution to be careful, they were allowed off the ship, each one
in turn activating their shields as they stepped off the ship. Colin looked
about a little nervously, keeping close to Niromi. She looked around as
well and then touched his arm and blinked. "Ohhh." Her paw touched
his arm and yet it didn’t. She felt a very thin barrier running
over their bodies, like a hard shell. "Wow." Lucille grinned.
"Amazing aren’t they?" Colin was fiddling with his belt
when a quick movement just out of the corner of his left eye made him
jerk his head up in alarm. He instinctively perked his ears as he squinted
his eyes, his left artificial one quickly cycling the different options.
The bushes again moved. "There, something moved." Colin called
out as he pointed off into the far woods. Thurston looked in the same
direction and blinked. "I don’t see anything. Where?"
“He has an artificial eye.” Niri pointed out. Colin switched
his viewing options, watching in infrared. After a long moment, he blinked
and then smiled. "It’s okay. Look." Out of the brush,
a small frog-like animal approached, sniffing the air and giving a small
high pitched croak. The green and red spotted creature looked much like
a bull frog, only with two legs, a short stub for a tail and two big black
eyes staring back at the group. Niri crouched a little and smiled widely.
"Oh wow, how adorable!" The creature seemed to sniff the air
and inch closer. "It’s a Gixza, be careful!" Thurston
cautioned as Niri held out a paw. Niri reached forward and gently scritched
the top of its head and it cooed. “Why is it so friendly? I would
have thought it would be scared of us.” Colin wondered. “Well…
it may not have seen a furre before. Therefore it has no reason to be
afraid.” Niri said. Niri looked up at Colin and smiled as the Gixza
croaked in a happy sounding tone. She leaned her head down closer and
tilted her head slightly, not wanting to scare it off but only to get
a better look at it. Apparently the creature didn’t take it as such,
because it croaked again and lashed out with its long tongue and struck
Niri on her muzzle. She cried out in more surprise than pain and fell
backwards onto her rear. "NIRI!" Colin pulled her back then
lashed out with a boot and sent the Gixza through air. It hit the ground
and scampered off into the brush from where it came, croaking and squeaking
in pain and fear... Later that night, Colin looked out the window at the planet moving below. "Mmm, this has been such a wonderful trip." Niri murred as she stretched, resting her back against the head rest. "Coming to bed love?" Colin looked over at her and smiled, his paw fiddling with a small box in his pants pocket. "C’mere a second first hun." She walked over and stood beside him. Colin turned to her, swallowing and flicking his tail nervously. He kneeled in front of her and took her paw into his, looking up at her with a pleading look. "Niromi Shiro, will you marry me?" The words hit Niri like a ton of bricks and she was silent for a long moment. Niri looked down at him with tears welled up in her eyes and she nodded. "Oh Colin, yes, yes, YES!" Colin stood and they hugged each other tightly, her tail wagging wildly, and the pair kissing all over each other. They parted and smiled, looking deep into each others eyes. Colin reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. “This, my dear sweet Niri, is what I was able to get with the last of the credits I got.” She gasped and opened it, the gold and diamond ring flickering in the light of the window. He smiled and slipped it on her finger. She then hugged him fiercely and kissed him passionately. "I love you so much Colin!" Niri kept one arm around Colin as they stepped onto the transport. "Mmm can we come back again?" Colin murred as he nuzzled her. "Of course, would be wonderful to show the children." She giggled and licked his cheek. "Love you." He smiled down at her. "Love you too." With one last backward glance, they boarded the ship for the trip for the gate, and back home. The End -------------------- |
